Trials of Motherhood

Trials of MotherhoodTrials of Motherhood!

I can’t help but to laugh at the many things some mothers have to go through. Many times I just have to shake my head at it all.

Well once again I have a situation and I had to look for some solutions for my problem. On many occasions I too have to seek outside help from other professionals. Like my primary care doctor, OBGYN or anther specialist to assist me with some of my motherly questions.  In this situation I started with my primary care physician.

Well, I contacted my primary care physician so I could discuss some changes in my body post nursing my twin boys. Many of the research I had done prior to this point spoke on how to stop the production of milk. To avoid gorging and any uncomfortable pain. Each article would state I would stop producing about 3-5 months after I stopped nursing my children. In addition I tried natural ways to stop my production, like cabbage in the bra and cold packs. Nothing has worked and I was still producing a high amount of milk. Hence why I decided that my doctor was my next step to a solution.

By this point I was about 6 months post nursing with my children. After going over everything with my doctor he informed me that by my next visit if it had not stopped he would provide me with a medication that would stop any production. So finally I was feeling like I was on a path to fully getting my body back!

In the interim I continued on with my regular activities, workouts and daily schedule. Sometime had passed and I attended a general meeting of CSMoM group I’m a member with and we had a great guest speaker, Mrs. Natalie Diaz. She is the bestselling author of “What To Do When You’re Having Two” and it was a great meeting.

Which brings me to the continued trials of my motherhood journey. While in the meeting I shared what I was going through and wanted to inquire if any other mom’s had a similar experience. When having multiples many things are different from the very beginning and I was curious to see if this was just one more thing. WELL, I believe it may be!

The information shared by the other moms were a mix of informative information and downright scary. However a few moms spoke to me about taking Sudafed, and the side effect it has on breastfeeding mothers. If you take Sudafed while breastfeeding it could stop the production of your milk. I will say at first I was intrigued. I couldn’t help but to think, if this was all I had to do to finally stop producing.  So after a few more laughs on my part I decided I would try this out, after speaking with my doctor. Then let the women know how everything turned out.

After I was given the ok to take the Sudafed, which I was happy because I was very congested and coming down with a cold.  I took the Sudafed for three days by day four I was feeling better and didn’t want to take medication if I didn’t need more. However I was still producing milk and I honestly believe it increased. HOW COULD THIS BE?

Well I have come to the conclusion that maybe I am either those few women that talked about still producing years after they’ve stopped nursing. Or keep trying different home remedies until one works. I haven’t forgotten about what my doctor told me either. So we will see what the next step will be in the Trials of Motherhood.

Maybe the next time I post I will tell you I was picked up by some doctors wanting to study why I am still producing milk long after stopping with my boys. Till the next time.
